Here's a small tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that you and I can enjoy a Memorial Day holiday.

One of the Best

My boyhood friend, Bill Wagner, passed over to the other side several days ago, a victim of cancer.

As was his character, he fought the “good fight” for a year and a half, and was surrounded by close friends and an adoring family, who cheered him on as he battled the insidious advers… Continue

I'll keep the offer in mind. Right now, I feel like a one-armed paper hanger. Too much going on to think about doing anything else.

Good to hear from you. This is a great forum. I have been in Chicago for four years now and I can say with certainty that this state has issues I do not think they are capable of overcoming. The city is fabulous, however will be back in Texas soon. Got to get closer to the grandkids.

Ed. Thanks for the welcome. I could talk about my book and Texas all day long. In fact I wrote about it on my blog today at www.TweedScott.com I'm looking forward to reading and participating on the site. Again thank you for the welcome. God and Texas forever!

Those brave volunteer Texans and others who defended the Alamo paid the ultimate price for our freedom and inflicted serious hurt on their adversaries in the process. They are heroes all. May they be forever remembered in our hearts and minds.

Thanks-- the creative side of my brain must have been "ON" this morning. Not always so!!
So-- on the lighter side-- I have a topic---who in the group has planted sunflowers for dove attraction/ habitat? This will be my first attempt at habitat enhancement on hunting grounds. What species of seed was used? When to plant and how to prepare the soil, if at all? My lease group is contemplating planting about 10 acres of sunflowers and 20 acres of wheat and buckwheat this spring to enhance our wildlife habitat. Our bird hunting was dismal last fall and we want to try to improve it. Any tips on being a farmer? What were your results? When is it going to rain again?
